Thots & Prayers

Thots & Prayers is a collection rooted in LA street culture, life, and movement, expressed through hood affirmations from a brown woman’s perspective. It honors lineage, memory, and the people we carry with us.

We are old school, having grown up before cellphones. Back then we checked in on each other, prayed for one another,  monitored the streets and police radios, traveled by foot, car, and bus, and left notes, mix tapes, used dial up phone and wait for hours to make a dedication on the radio. These practices of care, presence, remain part of our structural DNA.

Amid ongoing ICE raids, it is more important than ever to move with purpose. Our local street vendors and patrons are a mere fraction of evidence of community strength. Now more than ever it is crucial for us to keep our monies within our communities.
